The dates for the annual San Felipe Shrimp festival will be November 7th - 9th, 2014. As usual, the festival will be held on the Malecon boardwalk with the beautiful Sea of Cortez backdrop.. If you have not been to the Shrimp Festival, this is one of the annual events that attracts local as well as visitors from far away. Chefs from the best restaurants in San Felipe take up stands on the Malecon and compete for who can best prepare a shrimp dish. Of course, all shrimp are freshly caught from the Sea of Cortez.
As a Shrimp Festival visitor, you automatically become a judge. For a small fee, usually $10 - $20, you get a pass to go round the different stands and sample the different shrimp dishes. At the end, you score each stand and the chef with the highest score wins the competition.
Along with trying out shrimp dishes, there will be lots of entertainment. Everything from different live bands to fun games for kids and adults are all part of the entertainment you will find. One of our favorites is the dancing performance during the shrimp festival put on by locals. It's choreography at its best.
