Rosita’s on the Malecon
If devouring Mexican food and people watching is your idea of a great night, then you need to head straight over to Rosita’s. Located at the end of San Felipe’s famous Malecon (or boardwalk) this is a hot spot for tourists and locals alike. During the day, the sun shines brightly on the Malecon, but the sea breezes from the gulf keep temperatures down and allow for a comfortable and enjoyable stroll. As you walk along the Malecon, there is no telling what you may see. Live music, street vendors, performers, and festivals, just to name a few. Beautiful people line the beautiful beaches almost year round, so it’s easy to spend the day on the boardwalk and meet new friends. Since there is always something going on, make sure to have your camera out and ready, as you never know what could come along. The Malecon is the location for many popular events like poker tournaments and the famous San Felipe Shrimp Festival. The gorgeous boardwalk is a great place to take pictures as the sun sets behind you every evening. As the sun goes down, the Malecon turns into the perfect backdrop for a girls night out, a family walk along the water or a “second first date” with your special someone. After all of this walking and site seeing, you will be ready to take a load off, munch on some authentic Mexican food, and enjoy the company of your family and friends. And it is then, that you should head to Rosita’s.
Grab a Seat
When looking for Rosita’s, keep an eye out for the bright green logo adorned with a very relaxed sea creature sporting a sombrero! It is bright red, green and yellow and represents Mexico’s flag, and is hard to miss! Parking can be a little tricky, but you are usually able to find a spot out front or just a few doors down. For the people watchers, grab a covered table in front of the restaurant for the best seat on the Malecon. Here you can enjoy the sites and sounds of the beach while taking advantage of the shade. For a more private dining experience, head inside and sit at one of the long tables in the air conditioning. Wherever you sit, you will be in a great spot. The walls inside of Rosita’s are covered with maps, news articles and pictures of important news and events of San Felipe. Challenge your friends to try and spot the giant lobster and the football helmet on the walls of the dining room. Posters advertising local area attractions and events cover the walls of the dining room, so as you eat and drink you can see everything going on in this beautiful city. The décor is unconventional, but the food, the cocktails and the exceptional service is why you come to Rosita’s, not for the wallpaper.
Perfect for Lunch
Order a glass of wine, cold beer or soda and peruse the menu. The lunch menu is extensive, and house recommendations include the quesadillas. Stuffed with your choice of meat and packed tight with cheeses and fresh veggies, this Mexican favorite will quickly turn into a family favorite. If you are craving seafood, order the steamed clams, and if you are feeling a little adventurous, try the veracruzano octopus platter which serves the eight legged sea creature in a delicious blend of lemon, seasonings and wine. Food comes in giant portions, especially the shrimp cocktail appetizer!
Delicious Breakfast Options
If your plan is to head out to the Malecon for an early morning run or just as a great way to start your day, Rosita’s also serves breakfast. Order a glass of orange juice and try one of the house specialties like the Omlet de salsa espana, (Spanish salsa omelet) and hot cakes con jamon (Hotcakes with ham.) No matter when you come to Rosita’s, you will leave full and satisfied.
Rosita’s Is A Hidden Gem
Where Rosita’s lacks in elegant décor, it makes up for in delicious foods. This place doesn’t stand out amongst the other restaurants and shops along the Gulf, however for the lucky ones that happen to stumble upon it and walk in, it is a little piece of San Felipe that everyone will love. Rosita’s is a great place to stop in the middle of the day for some fresh chips, guacamole and salsa. Served in large baskets and bowls, it makes for a perfect people-watching snack. Pair this yummy Mexican classic with an ice-cold beer and your afternoon in San Felipe is bound to be a great one.
Excellent Customer Service
Everyone from the servers to the cooks at Rosita’s display their love for their job in their happy and upbeat attitudes and attention to detail. The servers manage a busy Friday night crowd with patience and finesse, and take the time to answer any questions you may have (even if your Spanish is less than perfect.) The cooks take pride in not only the taste but also the presentation of each dish they put out. Carefully crafted like a piece of art, you will want to take a picture of these delicious masterpieces before you devour them.
Quick Walk to Amazing Views
Feeling a little romantic? Take your sweetie to Rosita’s for dinner, and then take a walk up to the hill where you can peer down on the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk from up high. This is a local secret that many don’t know about, and is a great photo opportunity. Rosita’s gives you quick access to one of the most amazing views of San Felipe you can get. At night, watch the lights of the city illuminate the night sky for a breathtaking transformation from day to night.
Guests staying in luxury vacation homes on the prestigious El Dorado Ranch are just a 20-minute drive from Rosita’s. Waking up, spending the day cruising on ATVs or lounging in the sun and heading to Rosita’s for dinner and drinks is a perfect combination for a perfect San Felipe vacation.
