San Felipe is long known as a haven for outdoor activities during the day, like hiking, ultralight plane flights and horseback riding.  During the evenings however, there are many restaurants and bars to visit, and nightclubs if you’re in the mood to dance. If you are feeling lucky and you are looking for some more exciting entertainment, you'll be happy to know of WinClub Casino, which opened early 2013. Right from it's opening, Winclub Casino has proven to be very popular with San Felipe tourists.

Winclub Casino is part of BetCRIS Sportsbook, owned and operated by Costa Rica International Sports. Established in 1985, CRIS is one of the top 5 sportsbooks in the world and has 50 locations throughout Latin America

Winclub Casino is built on the site of the old Bandidos Bar building on Mar de Cortez 301a, near the Malecon in downtown San Felipe, across from the State building. If your vacation rental home is in El Dorado Ranch, this will be about 7 minute drive down San Felipe - Mexicali Highway 5 heading South into town.

The casino has been owned by a few different companies over the years, and just recently had a grand opening when Winclub took over. The grand opening celebration was a big deal in the city, complete with fireworks, food and live music. 

Inside the Casino

The first 2/3 of the building is smoke free and includes entry security and a well stocked bar, along with lots of electronic machines. The final 1/3 is a glass enclosed smoking area. The smoking area includes electronic games and a separate room has a blackjack table and a poker table, Lovers of both Texas hold ‘em or regular poker will enjoy the poker table, as both games are played. 

Bingo

Many people enjoy playing bingo, and try to increase their chances of winning by playing slot machines and bingo at the same time. They have bingo daily, and you can win 1000 credits for a winning line and 500 Pesos in cash for a full card. They also have free credits on different days of the week. They give you half of what you put on your card: (ex: 200 pesos gives you 100 pesos in credits.) 

The facility is designed to cater to both English speaking and Spanish guests. This means on all machines, you get to select between English or Spanish. Just like in Las Vegas, you'll have to buy a card from the cashier and load this with credit. Regulars to the casino say that each machine has a number on it, and occasionally the casino will call out a random machine by number, and the person playing on that machine will earn free credits. 

Slot Machine Myths

If you are a fan of the slot machine, you may have heard a few things about them that are untrue. Here are a few myths about slot machines:

• Once a jackpot is won it won't hit again for some time
This is totally false. Every spin of the reels is in no way affected by the last spin so it is entirely possible hit the jackpot two spins in a row.

• The temperature of the coins played will affect the way a machine pays. 
False. The machine is not affected by temperature. It doesn't matter if you play hot, cold, old or new coins. The coin slot is a mechanical device and has no feeling.

Drink Responsibly

Hours are from 9am till 3am. On special weekends, hours go until 4am. Must be over 18.  If you are taking a taxi to the casino, tell the driver you want to go to the casino on the Malecon, as sometimes they don’t know the official name of casino, Winclub Casino. Since this is a place that is open late and serves a lot of alcohol, be very careful when you’re leaving for the night. Cops are very strict about drinking and driving, and have been know to hang out around the casino looking for people who have had a little too much to drink and are attempting to drive home. It’s not worth ruining your vacation, or your life, for a few drinks at a slot machine. Have fun, but be responsible.

The employees speak varying amounts of English and Spanish and are very helpful with getting you acquainted with their machines.

Casino: Great Addition To Date Night

On your next San Felipe vacation, if you're up for trying your luck for a few dollars or pesos, head over to Winclub Casino. Since dressing up is not necessary, planning a few hours in the casino will fit right in to a date night on the Malecon. Start your day enjoying one of the many pools on El Dorado Ranch Resort, go back to your fully furnished vacation rental home or condo for a siesta, head out to The Sweet Spot Bar and Grill for lunch, spend a few hours on the beach or riding at ATV, head back home for another nap, and then as the sun goes down, head back out to the Malecon for dinner. If your plan is to head to the casino after dinner, stop by Rice and Beans or the Parrot’s Cracker for a bite to eat. This will put you just a short drive from the casino. Before you fill up your card with credits, stop by the bar and order a drink. The drinks are strong, and very reasonably priced. Take the drink to your favorite machine or table and go to town! One visitor to the casino won 14000 pesos ($1,057!) on their first day on a slot machine! Who says that can’t be you?

Other visitors say they go for the entertainment, and don’t go expecting to walk out the doors a millionaire. Just as with any casino you win some and you lose some, it’s all part of the thrill and excitement.
