Golfing in San Felipe

People who enjoy golf know that the difference between a good golf day and a great golf day is the area in which you’re playing, and the golf course you are playing on. It’s hard to relax and truly enjoy the game of golf when you have tall buildings or highways surrounding you. Golf is about relaxing, taking your time and taking in the views. When you come to San Felipe to golf, you are guaranteed to have a great golf game, regardless of what is on your score sheet at the end of the day. The views from this golf course can’t be beat, and the theme throughout the entire course makes golfing here a completely new and unique experience.

San Felipe has one golf course, and it is Las Caras de Mexico, located on the prestigious El Dorado Ranch Resort. More specifically, it Is located in the Ventana del Mar community of the resort. The El Dorado Ranch Resort is proud of this championship style 18-hole course for many reasons. It is not a “touristy” golf course in the middle of Mexico, but a unique course that blends in with the natural scenery and has a minimal impact on the surrounding areas. When you arrive at Las Caras De Mexico, you will be amazed at the flawless design, breathtaking views and attention to detail put forth in everything from the first hole to the 18th.

A Course Designed By A Pro

The course was designed by famous architect, Bradford Benz. Mr. Benz has been in the architectural field for over 30 years and has designed 136 golf course worldwide, some of which have hosted PGA tournaments.  When El Dorado Ranch’s golf director was looking for someone to create a golf course that worked in harmony with the existing landscapes, he knew exactly who to call. The end result was Las Caras de Mexico, a golf course that brings out the natural beauty of San Felipe. The golf was not a predetermined “cookie cutter” model golf course that was going to be placed in the middle of the resort. Instead, it was created specifically for El Dorado Ranch Resort, taking the existing land into consideration. For example, all of the plants that were going to be displaced by the construction of the course were not simply pulled out or bulldozed over, but moved carefully to a nursery where they could continue to thrive. It was attention to detail and environmentally conscious ideas such as this that made the golf course not just an extra amenity to the resort, but an overall improvement for the environment. The plants that were brought in to enhance the resort were carefully selected so they did not overpower the native plant species. The green itself is salt tolerant so that the plants can thrive using salt water, minimizing the amount of fresh water needed to keep the green looking beautiful. San Felipe gets less than 3 inches of rain per year and water is a valuable resource, so using water that is too high in salt content for human consumption keeps the wells from filling up and saves the fresh waster for the people of the city.

The Faces of Mexico

Las Caras de Mexico can be translated into “Faces of Mexico,” which makes even more sense when you go from hole to hole and see the statues and stories of the historical men and women of San Felipe who played a part in making San Felipe the lively city that is it today. As you putt and swing your way thorugh the golf course, you can also get an education on the cultural history of San Felipe.  Keep an eye out for the hole dedicated to Hernan Cortes, the explorer who discovered the Baja Peninsula. As you explore the course and come across the statue of Father Fernando Consag, impress your friends and family with your knowledge this Jesuit missionary who formally proclaimed the bay San Felipe de Jesus. He actually landed on the rocky island that can be seen from San Felipe’s coast, Konsag Island, a great place to fish when you’re not golfing

The course celebrates the hard work and sacrifices of many explorers, leaders and contributors to the make up of San Felipe’s rich and vibrant history.

Visitors who are staying in a fully furnished condo or rental home on El Dorado Ranch Resort have VIP access to this gorgeous golf course. When you are ready to start your day on the green, head to the pavilion club house for your golf passes. Here you will also be able to rent clubs, golf carts, balls and other golf necessities for very reasonable prices. Another amazing benefit of staying on El Dorado Ranch is the free golf passes! That’s right, for every day you stay on the resort, you get free golf passes.

Food, Drinks and Wifi

After a good game of golf, stop back by the Pavilion for bite to eat or celebratory drink. The restaurant offers a continental style menu and free wifi, so you can post pictures and brag to your friends back home about the amazing golf course in San Felipe!

“My sons and I played golf almost every day we were in San Felipe. The course was just a short walk from our rental home, we just couldn’t sit out on our balcony and see the other golfers out there and NOT take advantage of the great course. We golf a lot back home, but we never have mountains and oceans to look at as we play. We had a great time, and met some other golfers out on the course who were staying on the resort as well. We rented clubs for much less than we could rent them for back in the states. By the third or fourth day we were quizzing each other at each hole about the different explorers featured throughout the course. It was a great way for us to bond, and we got some beautiful pictures!”

Golfing in San Felipe is a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather and the breath taking views, and everyone should get out and experience “La Caras de Mexico” whether you’re an experienced golfer or a novice. It is fun for the whole family.
