La Hacienda Gated Community
The seaside resort of La Hacienda known as the jewel of San Felipe, stretches from the edge of the San Felipe–Puertecitios Highway all the way to the white sand shores of the Sea of Cortez. The beauty of La Hacienda starts with the unique gradient nature of the land. The community sits atop a hill, which slopes towards the sea. Home designs and construction are such that almost every home has beach views. You will either have beach views from the first floor or second floor. In some cases, beach views are from roof top decks - the roof top decks are another really cool feature as many of them include a fireplace for night time enjoyment.
The secluded beach in the community is a popular surf and family swim area as well as a good spot for launching kayaks. Along the beach, there are lots of palapas which are used on a first-come first choice basis. Note that chairs are not provided with the palapas so do remember to bring foldable chairs if you need to, or do what most guests do which is simply come with a beach towel. While the beach is free from traders, you will once a while see the welcome site of the Pina Coco truck driving slowly along the beach preparing fresly made pina coladas right out the back of the modified truck. Price is usually $5.
La Hacienda is made up of a combination of long-term residents and short-term residents, primarily vacationers who come down for few days or weeks. Many of the vacation rental homes offer discount on 7 night and 30 night stays. Some US residents choosing to move to San Felipe initially decide to rent a home to better familiarize themselves with La Hacienda and surrounding communities before buying. Yet others chose to rent furnished homes while their dream home is being constructed.
The busiest periods in San Felipe are the Baja250 week as well as the Easter week. During these periods, short-term La Hacienda vacation rental homes usually have a minimum stay of 3 – 5 nights. For these weekends, booking your rental home early is the smart way to go. Preferably months in advance.
From the commuity, it is just a short 30 minute drive further south to the famous Puertecitios Hot springs.
