Guadalupana is the name of a chain of drug stores found throughout the northern state of Baja California, including Ensenada, Rosarito Beach, Tijuana, Mexicali, and San Felipe, whose specialty is homeopathy.  Although prescription, generic, and name-brand medicines can be found here, Guadalupana also carries a wide variety of homeopathic remedies and herbal supplements for whatever ails you.

There are two Guadalupana’s in San Felipe.  One has been open for several years, and is located at the corner of Mar Caribe Sur and Calzada Chetumal (398 Calzada Chetumal, the main street entering San Felipe as you drive in from Mexicali).  The new Guadalupana is recently opened, having undergone extensive renovation.  It is located at 56 Mar de Cortez, next to the bank, on the main street of downtown San Felipe for your convenience.

Guadalupana fills prescriptions from all area doctors, who know exactly what medicines are available in San Felipe.  Being a small town, all medications that are familiar in other countries may not be accessible here.  However, the medical community of San Felipe is extremely professional and competent.  (Having lived here for over a decade, I am familiar with the medical practices of San Felipe, and I have had very little to complain about).    Guadalupana is also the only drugstore in San Felipe that fills prescriptions for controlled substances, such as Xanax (Alprazolam)

Boticas is the Mexican word for ‘drugstores’.  It sounds a bit like the word ‘boutique’.

All boticas sell much more than simply medicines.  You are free to browse, and staff is courteous and helpful.

English is spoken at Guadalupana, in order that you get exactly what you are looking for.  Staff is pleasant and knowledgeable.

Guadalupana is a full-service drugstore, offering a variety of health and beauty needs along with medicines and remedies.

Shelves are stocked, full of everything one could ask for when it comes to injuries and wounds, from muscle aches to boo-boos of the smallest kinds.  Antibiotic creams, bandages, and braces are all available in loads of strengths, sizes, and types.   Do-it-yourself home health care needs are in abundance here.

Personal hygiene products are available as well at Guadalupana.  They take care of you from head to toe, inside and out.  From aspirin to ibuprofen to acetaminophen,  for body aches and pains, dental care, and those everyday cuts, scrapes, and bruises, Guadalupana has what you need.  The more familiar brands stand side by side with brands from Mexico, which are often less expensive and work just as well.

Household cleanliness-care products are available to keep your living environment as germ-free and health friendly as possible.

The oh-so-important bottles of electrolytes stand on a prominently-displayed carousel.   Electrolytes are a must in Mexico, where stomach and digestive problems can hit without warning,.  Becoming dehydrated often happens without your knowledge, just a vague feeling that something is not right. Electrolytes are the quickest acting, most effective way to help your body get what it needs.  They are imperative to have in every household, ‘just in case’.

Where Guadalupana shines, however, is in its abundance of homeopathic and natural remedies for any occasion.  Teas come in a wide variety, from Siete Azares to help you relax before bedtime to Boldo, which acts as a natural cleansing tonic, especially suited to help the liver in de-toxing.  Jamaica (pronounced ha-my-ka) is made from the flower petals of certain hibiscus plants to provide assistance in aiding the kidneys in healthy functioning.  If you’re looking for something specific, just ask.  Many of these herbal teas have been used in Mexico for generations, for ailments from upset stomach to joint pain.  It’s quite possible that staff members have used them, or seen them used in their families.

The assortment of herbal botanicals is enormous, and you would be hard-pressed to find such volume elsewhere.   Dried herbs, flowers, and other plants are displayed on their own wall.  For teas, infusions, or to sprinkle on your food, such botanicals can enhance and complement your everyday diet.  Alternative medicines are becoming more popular as the public becomes tired of ingesting chemicals to aid their bodies in its search for health and wellness. More research and clinical testing is being done on such remedies on a daily basis.   There is a lot of information on the internet nowadays to help you become aware of that natural something that might help your body in a gentler, more human-friendly way.

Guadalupana is, indeed, a full-service drugstore.  For more information, you can email them at [email protected].
