Extreme Off-road in san Felipe - San Felipe Baja 250

Among the different events held in san Felipe, you will find the ultimate extreme entertainment for off road adventure lovers, and that is the annual SAN FELIPE BAJA 250 OFF ROAD RACE.

And for those of you who haven’t enjoyed this type of event before, here is a heads-up, most likely you will become a fan of this sport too.

Organized by Score International and Tecate beer in conjunction with Mexican state, city government and other private and public organizations, the San Felipe Baja 250 is the first race of the year of a series of 3 main races that they begin in Baja California Norte.

 Starting and finish line will be the San Felipe Arches monument at the entrance into San Felipe and will held February 27^th through March 2^nd,. The main race itself is on March 1^st. 2014.   

You can admire all the competing vehicles during inspection, which occurs a day previous to the race.  Inspection usually takes place at the sea wall -  Malecon ( or mahlecaahn as locals call it)

The race features highly modified vehicles competing to attain the shortest time over competing vehicles in the same category or across the different categories, and reaching the finish line with both drivers and vehicle in one piece.  Along the race course, drivers encounter very tough and unforgiving desert conditions.  Everything from mountains, very dusty sand spots where almost everything gets stuck, rocks, dry creeks, thorns, fauna, bushes, and all sort of obstacles that the Mexican Baja desert may throw in their way to keep them from reaching they precious goal  - THE FIRST PLACE.

The san felipe 250 racecourse brings very heavy punishment to the drivers and the very expensive vehicles, some of them may reach a cost up to $250,000 , or more. And that’s only for the competing vehicle plus the logistics involved.

These vehicles include motorbikes, quads, vw bugs, dune buggies, and the king: the trophy truck. Among other classes

So come on down to san Felipe bring your ice chest  fill it with your favorite refreshment  and take your seat in the vip first row seat just on the side of the course. You will experiment the adrenaline of the race while watch them take some air after a big jump at high speeds and graciously touch the ground again to continue setting the pedal to the floor.

Extra info and advices

1. Even though the race is named “San Felipe Baja 250”, the actual mileage covered is approximately 274 miles.

2 If you do attend the race make, find a spot along the course where the wind is blowing towards your back so you don’t get all dusted.

3. For safety reasons, don’t stand near a curve along the racecourse, - it is one of the most dangerous places to be in when vehicles come roaring past.
