Hot springs are nature’s hot tubs! If you’ve spent your days in San Felipe walking along the Malecon, playing golf on El Dorado Ranch, or dancing the night away at Rockodile, a day trip out to the hot springs is a great way to soothe your aching muscles and tired feet.

When you arrive at Puerticitos (which means little port) you will have a few options for things to do. There is Alfonsina’s, a little place to stop by the water that offers a diverse menu (try the seafood!) a place to refuel and a hotel for the night if you plan on staying.

When you’re fed and ready to experience the hot springs, head about ten minutes east of the bay to find them.  As one blogger so perfectly described it

“During high tide they’re inaccessible but as the tide goes out, three major pools, one after the other, are slowly revealed.  The mix of cold seawater and boiling geothermal pools produces a perfect temperature for soaking up the healing qualities of the springs.  As the tide goes out, pools grow warmer, but you move from one to the next (the one closest to the sea being the least warm), till you find your ideal sitting spot.  Besides Alex and his wife, Mercia, Kai & I are the only other people there.  Half-siting, half-floating, surrounded by copper-colored volcanic rock and the soothing sound of bubbling water, I watch pelicans dive for fish as the sunset spreads its warm colors over the Sea.  I am captivated, trying to take in and mentally record every second, in awe of the fact that I am experiencing this precious place in time.”

Nature has a magnificent way of giving us exactly what we need. When we need fun in the sun, we have the fantastic San Felipe coastline. When we need to reconnect with nature, there’s horseback riding through the woods and fishing. And when we need to relax our tired muscles and worry about nothing at all, we have the hot springs.
